Mission

To equip oral health professionals globally with communication tools to raise patients' oral health literacy, turning oral health information into easy actionable information for patients to improve their health.

About the PCC Training

Limited health literacy is one of the biggest barriers to good oral health. Dental professionals require specific health literacy competencies to effectively communicate with patients across varying literacy levels and promote patient-centered care (PCC). This workshop equips dental professionals with the skills to identify patients' health literacy needs and communicate in a way that actually reaches them.

Learning objectives

  • Identify patients with limited health literacy
  • Raise oral health awareness among these patients
  • Strengthen patients' self-management of oral health and disease

This research project bridged the knowledge gap between health literacy, and multimorbidity (co-occuring of chronic conditions) associated with oral diseases using population level data. By generating empirical evidence related to health literacy and needs assessment, this project developed and piloted patient-centered communication training for dental students and professionals.
