PCC is a knowledge-sharing platform for dental professionals. This will help dentists, dental hygienists, and oral health educators communicate effectively with patients, using simple language, visual materials, understandable instructions, so that patients can understand and use this information to improve and prevent oral diseases.

Limited health literacy is one of the biggest barriers to good oral health. Dental professionals require specific health literacy competencies to effectively communicate with patients across varying literacy levels and promote patient-centered care (PCC). This workshop equips dental professionals with the skills to identify patients' health literacy needs and communicate in a way that actually reaches them.

This research and training was put together by professionals from UMCG, Groningen, The Netherlands and Manipal College of Dental Sciences, Manipal, India.
This research project bridged the knowledge gap between health literacy, and multimorbidity (co-occuring of chronic conditions) associated with oral diseases using population level data. By generating empirical evidence related to health literacy and needs assessment, this project developed and piloted patient-centered communication training for dental students and professionals.
